Counter Strike: Global Offensive is a perfect port for consoles. While you can’t complain about ANYTHING in Counter Strike: GO, there are a few things the console release is missing and will probably hurt the game in the long run. Don’t get it twisted though, Counter Strike: GO is a great game, every bit as much worth the $15.
I used to play Counter Strike Source and after years of playing I never stopped enjoying it, mainly because of all the awesome mods that were created for the game. The Counter Strike community is huge and dedicated. For years they played Source and developed the game themselves over time. New game modes, new maps, updated graphics, everything that you could image for Counter Strike probably exists in some fore due to modders. Valve is very proud of that, and they made sure that the fans of the game would be able to mod and enjoy CS:GO just as much as they did previously.
The game has officially been out for 2 weeks now and their are already numerous custom maps, zombies, new guns and more mods in the works.

Now, how could Valve translate that strong fan base on PC as a benefit to their console gamers? What if they opted to pick the best mods on PC and rework them into the console version. Would it be that difficult? The mods already lay down all the groundwork for any DLC they could muster up. I understand licensing and development costs are an issue but for whatever it would cost to get the DLC approved on PSN and XBL would be well worth it in the long run.
I thought the same thing with the console release of Portal 2. The console version of Portal 2 was fine, no issues and it was arguably the best game of the year. Then Valve released a level editor on PC, exponentially increasing the value of the game. What did the console version of the game get? Nothing, not even an extra level. It would have been near impossible to get good level editor working on consoles, but why not take some of the best levels users made, add them to a collection and put up for DLC on the consoles. You don’t need to thank me for all the money you’ll make.
I understand Valve has never really developed games for consoles, they have always been slaves to the master race. The problem though is even though Valve does not make games directly for the consoles, they HAVE to be aware and responsive to the console community. SHHH I hear it now, “If you want all that stuff just get it on PC”. Be quiet, I COULD and I do enjoy PC games but this isn’t about me, this is about Valve figuratively turning their back on the console. I’m sure that the people who make these mods for Valves games would love to see them make some kind of transition to consoles, and console gamers, especially those who bought CS:GO NEEDS content like to help keep the game fresh and exciting.
Counter Strike is a game that can survive on its gameplay alone for years to come. Counter Strike: GO’s predecessors can attest to that. It’s also a game with a strong community that established itself and kept their game alive with user generated content, it would be a shame for the fans on consoles to lose out on great gaming experiences just because of a little discrimination.
