It is pretty well established that Steam is the best digital distribution service known to the gaming industry at this time. That doesn’t mean that Valve can’t release more things to make it even better. That’s where Steam Greenlight comes in. Valve just announced Steam Greenlight, and it will allow the people to decide which games are released through Steam.
“For many stores, there is a team that reviews entries and decides what gets past the gates. We’re approaching this from a different angle: The community should be deciding what gets released. After all, it’s the community that will ultimately be the ones deciding which release they spend their money on.”
So if you couldn’t get it out of that quote from Valve, the new hub will allow the community to vote on the individual indie games that will be released through Steam. This should actually be a pretty interesting development, considering now the future of indie gaming on Steam will be decided by the people who will be playing the games. I am very happy to hear this news, and will definitely be checking out what Greenlight has to offer when it goes live in August.
As soon as we learn more information, you will be able to find it here.
