Namco Bandai made the special presentation of a new trailer for a Digimon RPG, but this one isn’t like the ones that many of us have played.
Those gamers who have played one of the past Digimon RPGs know that the game was more about successfully raising a Digimon through its life cycle, guaranteeing successful Digivolution forms. I owned Digimon World many years ago and remember this play style all too well (to anyone who wishes to know, my first Champion form in the game was a Numemon. Trust me–I got better over time).
However, based on the trailer above, this game seems to be more like a classic turn-based RPG that follows the first series of the anime show–which was probably the most successful of all the Digimon series. At the end of the trailer, there are some slight clues that the Digimon movie (called Digimon: The Movie here in the States. It was actually composed of three different “episodes” from Japan). I may be thinking too much on it, but the background behind the PSP reminds me of the Internet background when Diaboromon was being battled against.
However, unless it gets ported, we might not see it here. It’s being sold for the PSP in Japan, which is still selling, but the PSP is not too prevalent here in the West anymore. The release seems to be sometime in 2013.
If you’re not familiar with Digimon, just know that it came out at the time when Pokemon was extremely popular. It centered on a digital world where people would end up partnered with Digimon (Digital monsters). It was very much like an animated version of Tamagotchi. Through my personal opinion, I felt that the anime series was far better than the Pokemon one, but the games released of Digimon were something to be desired.
Maybe this game can help fix that. What do you think of this new reveal? Would any people in the West wish to play this?
