As referenced by my title, I have good news and bad news for all of the Professor Layton fans. I think I’ll start with the good news first and tell you that three games are coming your way.
The first one is one that people probably already know about, but it has a release date now. Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask is the first 3DS title in the series that has been available in Japan since last year. However, it’s coming to the US and Europe in a couple months on October 28 and 26 respectively. This game is set after the events The Last Specter in the prequel trilogy of the titular character.
Miracle Mask will also be available for digital download as well as store purchase.
Set to be released sometime in 2013, Professor Layton and the Legacy of Super Civilization A was announced at the recent Nintendo Conference. This is where your bad news comes in as it has been stated that this game will be the last to feature Professor Layton as your protagonist in the series. Whether the series will continue with a new hero, like Ace Attorney did, is unknown at this time.
Speaking of Ace Attorney, Level-5 is working with Capcom to bring a collaborative title, Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney, forward. The title is due out in Japan sometime this year. No news yet on a US/EU release.
