The Splatters, a quirky, physics-based puzzle game has been available on Xbox Live Arcade, but developer SpikySnail Games appears discontent with the current number of platforms it is on. Windows and Mac versions will become available through Steam, and Linux will be getting the title as well. In addition, the Mac and Linux versions will not have DRM. SpikySnail had this to say…
“After we’ve given this a lot of thought we decided against simply porting the game over to PC, even at the cost of delaying the PC launch,”
“It wasn’t an easy decision to take as it has financial implications. But knowing what we now know, the urge to change things around and try to improve the experience is stronger than anything.”
No release date or window has been given, but the developer says, “it won’t be that long and we’re pretty confident the result will more than make up for the delay.”
As more and more XBLA and PSN games gain popularity and become available on other platforms, the success and appeal of the format becomes clear. With all the avenues of consumption and types of experiences available, it’s clearly a good time to be a gamer.
