You might know the name Mark J. Hadley’s name from two of the most interesting horror games to hit the industry in quite a while, Slender and Sanatorium. While the aforementioned titles don’t do much in the departments of story or gameplay, they definitely make up for it with their atmosphere. They are perfect examples of how the survival horror genre should be represented, or at least show the beginning layers of what one should expect from a survival horror game. Anyways, let’s get on to his most recent endeavor.
Ludum Dare is an online jam of sorts where people from all around the world compete to see who can make the best game in one weekend. There is an established theme, and everyone must develop something around that theme. That’s where “Where am I?” saw its inception. The whole game is very similar to Slender or Sanatorium in the fact that you just walk around a pre-established area and basically get your pants scared off. Where am I? puts you in a desolate corridor of hallways, and has you wandering aimlessly in order to find a way out. Of course, it seems that you are not alone on this journey.
I played through Where am I? and I was pretty impressed. The atmosphere was cool, and it did give me a pretty good jolt at the end. To think that he developed this in 48 hours is a pretty scary thing. It had a lot of cool aspects for such a short development time.
If you want to give the game a try, you can head over here.
