It’s a sad, but common story during this generation of the gaming in the industry. A game under performs and the development team is sent to the chopping block. The development studio in question is Silent Hill: Downpour developer Vatra Games. Silent Hill: Downpour was an admirable attempt at rebooting Konami’s once highly revered horror series, but was met with mix reviews. Whether it was Downpour’s sales performances or something else entirely, Vatra Games is under review by parent company Kuju Entertainment.
“Under review” doesn’t necessarily mean “off with your head”. According to Eurogamer’s Czech site, Kuju Entertainment only stated that Vatra Games was under review by a new management team, as well as other companies under Kuju’s flag. It’s nerve wracking Vatra Games’s future seems up in the air at the moment. For the past couple of years Silent Hill has been tossed to one developer to another like a hand grenade waiting to explode. It would be comforting to see the series find a permanent home, and I believe Vatra Games took the series a step in the right direction. We’ll keep you updated when more details emerge.
