The Ouya looks better and better with each day that passes. It seems like just yesterday that the system was seeking funding for their kickstarter. Now, $5,000,000 later, they are more than just a kickstarter project, they are on their way to being a full fledged console. Being a full fledged console and all, big time publishers and developers are looking to bring their games to it. They already have the support of Square Enix, and are now looking to Namco Bandai.
Carlson Choi, Namco Bandai’s VP of marketing had this to say regarding Ouya and Namco Bandai’s meetings…
Namco Bandai Games and Ouya are currently in active discussions to bring some of the world’s biggest gaming properties to the exciting new open gaming platform. Namco Bandai brings with it a rich history of iconic gaming franchises, from classics like Pac-Man and Galaga, to seminal franchises like Tekken and Ridge Racer, and we’re excited to explore how we can work with Ouya to bring some great titles to the forthcoming console.
I wouldn’t mind seeing some Tekken on the Ouya. Not to mention the fact that since it is so open to development and modding, I wouldn’t be surprised if people found a way to hack the individual Ouya games to make them even more exciting. Maybe they could get to the point where they could add extra characters to games like Tekken.
Let’s just hope that all this hype doesn’t die before the Ouya even becomes available.
