A few new details have leaked for the next installment to the Hyperdimension Neptunia (titled Neptune in Japan) series. The first thing, which isn’t very huge, is that Histoire will be making a return. Even though she won’t exactly be the same person you knew from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, it will be nice to see her again.
Second, there are going to be some changes to the battle system in Neptune V. The first of these changes comes in the form of a Hyper Combo Meter called the Exec Drive. In Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, the only thing that combos really did was use up your attack points, which were what you used up in order to execute attacks. Now, it looks like they may have another purpose. When you use combo attacks or take damage, the bar will fill. Players can charge up to four levels of Exec Drive energy, which you can use for special attacks called EX finishers.
The second improvement involves the various CPUs, and how Neptune will be able to use them. It will be called the “Final Hardware System”, and it will allow the CPUs to turn into weapons that Neptune can wield. This will make for a system that allows Neptune to gain strength based upon the other CPUs, and should add a very interesting dynamic to Neptune V’s gameplay. While this addition is still unconfirmed, it would definitely be interesting.
Neptune V comes out in Japan on August 30. There has been no word on a North American release.
