Hiromichi Tanaka has been one of Square Enix’s veterans having been around since the early 80′s when Square Enix was just Square. During Vanafest 2012, Tanaka announced that he would be leaving Square Enix.

Hiromichi Tanaka has worked on several of Square Enix’s past titles including Final Fantasy I-IV, Chrono Cross, Xenogears, and also as the lead developer of Final Fantasy XI. He has recently been involved with overseeing development of Final Fantasy XIV.

The departure is due in part to health issues and also a desire to work as a single creator. Akihiko Matsui, another member on the development team for Final Fantasy XIV, has been named as his successor.
