Current THQ president Jason Rubin announced today that the company and Volition Inc. has cancelled production on the game InSane, a survival-horror game that was brought together by director Guillermo Del Toro.

The game has been cancelled due to the fact that THQ has suffered some major financial losses recently. Since then, THQ is now in a position where they will be working on games that have a risk/reward factor that is far more favorable for their company. Since pre-production has ended, all rights have officially been returned to Mr. Del Toro in full.

This is probably a sad day for horror game and Del Toro fans alike. I was actually quite excited to see what Del Toro and Volition Inc. could have come up with. However, I can understand THQ’s concerns about working on a title without a concrete franchise to help back it up…even if it has Del Toro behind it. Maybe another video game studio can pick up Del Toro’s game, but if not we’ll always have his creepy films to watch.
