Somewhat herald has the Duke Nukem Forever of the modding scene( eight years in development), Black Mesa Source is finally seeing a release date–September 14. That, my friends, is only two weeks away. That’s pretty sudden for an announcement that isn’t even two days old. That’s like if Square Enix got up and said, ‘Hey guys, by the way, Final Fantasy Versus XIII is coming out this weekend. Just thought you should all know. Okay, bye.’ The countdown on the Black Mesa Source website indicates these guys aren’t messing around; this is for real.
Things aren’t all sugar plumbs and lolipop chainsaws in the land of Half Life mods. What’s coming out on the 14th isn’t a complete package. A forum post on the website states that the first fourteen chapters of black Mesa will be released on the 14th, but their is no information whether the last four chapters will be released gradually as updates or bundled together in some sort of (hopefully) free DLC. Releasing an incomplete product doesn’t sound like the brightest ideas under the sun and tends to only agitate the consumers, and angry consumers lead to angry typing. If you’re lucky, they’ll even send you cupcakes. Eight years is a long development cycle, especially for a mod. It’s better that Black Mesa will be released sooner rather than, well, never.
